Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on the southern part of Myrtle Beach.

Time

My family and I was there on vacation, and I brought my photo gear with me. I wanted to wake up early on one of the mornings we were there to capture the sunrise. This was the day before we left.

Lighting

The lighting for this is all natural, right place at the right time.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 1D Mark IV, with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.

Inspiration

I always wanted to get an epic sunrise. I had noticed while we were there that the morning sunrise was in a perfect spot, so I ended up getting up early the day before we left, and it turned out to be worth it.

Editing

There wasn't really much post-processing done on this photo. Just basic sharpening, highlights and other small edits.

In my camera bag

My bag is usually packed with a 1D Mark IV and a 1D Mark III as a backup, with a 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8. If I am going to shoot some sports (which is my main focus), I also pack a 300mm f/2.8 Mark I.

Feedback

The only advice I would give is look at the weather beforehand, and also make sure you know where the sun will rise, so you can plan your shot.
