Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in front of St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) in Venice, Italy.

Time

After an overcast early morning, around 10:00 a.m. the clouds dissipated and the rays of sun over the top of the basilica was breathtaking.

Lighting

I angled my position to catch this natural starburst/flare, no filter used here, at just the right moment. It was magical.

Equipment

Shot with Nikon D5300, hand held, Nikon 24-70mm lens.

Inspiration

It was a magical moment. To be standing in front of this holy place, with the sun peeking above, I just had to take the shot. Architecture, history, nature and perhaps providence all came together at just the right moment.

Editing

I did some post processing with photoshop. Lightened the exposure a bit and adjusted the contrast, can't remember what else.

In my camera bag

Nikon D5300, Nikon 25-70mm has been my "go to" lens lately. I usually have a 50mm lens, and also sometimes carry a 70-300.

Feedback

Move. Look up, look down, look all around. The best shot is rarely at eye level. I didn't catch this star burst by standing in one spot. I kept adjusting my position until I saw this. My heart jumped as I pushed the shutter in burst mode.
