This photo was taken in a private garden in Selkirk, Scotland after a shower of rain in September 2016.The garden was huge with lots of lovely plants The roses were gorgeous and I was keen to try and capture a macro shot of some of them. This one was the best and I was thrilled with it.Time
The photo was taken at about 6:00pm on a Sunday afternon in mid-September. The garden was in full sunlight and I was able to capture sevral shots of the different plants.Lighting
As the garden was in sunight I didn't need any extra light. I was careful to position myself to capture the shot without shadows.Equipment
The only equipment I used was my Canon EOS 1000D with a Tamron 18-200 Lens.Inspiration
The garden and the house was absoutely gorgeous and I wanted to capture as much as possible. This was my first, and probably only, trip to Scotland and I wanted to shoot as many memories as I could. The lady of the house was the gardener and was very happy to show me the products of her labours.Editing
The only post-processing I did was to crop the photo to get as close to the water droplets as I could, while still showing the entire rose.In my camera bag
At the time, my bag had very few items as I was travelling with family. I carried my camera and 2 lenses (the Tamron 18-200 and the Canon kit lens 18-55). I also made sure I had spare batteries and cards for storage, as i wasn't downloading photos until I arrived home after a 4 week holiday! My kit now is slightly more extensive, with the addition of an external flash and tripod.Feedback
Look around and see the beauty around you! And see what others might not see. Take shots that mean something to you. Have a go and take care to check in the viewfinder for things like shadows before clicking! Enjoy taking photographs for yourself - don't focus on what the shot might be worth to someone else - over-thinking can be a killer!
