Many of us have seen very tiny flies hovering, even landing on our food. We call them "fruit flies". There are about 1mm to 1.5mm long, so you can be forgiven if you have not seen them. I found one on my breakfast table, and here's what they look like. Amazingly, they have only 4 pairs of chromosomes!
