I am a "Keen" amateur just getting used to using a DSLR. This was one of the first "decent" shots i took whilst still experimenting with all the new and fascinating setting on a Canon DSLR. Obviously it is a picture of a Gannet enjoying the updraft created by the cliffs. You can also see Puffins nesting at the RSPB Sanctuary Bempton Cliffs Bridlington where this picture was taken.Time
I am sort of proud of this one as i was using a "puny" 70-300 zoom, stabilized, when all around were pros's with 1000mm primes. The time of day worked well, around 1:30pm, so the sun was bright casting minimal shadows and of course I had a Polarizing filter on to soften the glare..Lighting
I think that the high sun and clear day bring out the Gannets colours well and allowed me to use a low ISO and high shutter speed.Equipment
I used a Canon 1200D fitted with a Sigma 70mm - 300mm zoom, along with a Polarizing filter and a Bi-pod to help stability.Inspiration
I wanted to try wildlife to get used to panning etc againEditing
Slight crop, nothing elseIn my camera bag
Have upgraded to a second hand Canon 5D Mk II. Lenses I usually carry a 28mm - 70mm, 105mm prime and a 70mm - 300mm Canon with stabilizers (any advice on how they work would be helpful as the m,manual is useless). I also carry a flash various filters and a spare battery & chip. I also have a tripod and remote release in the car boot at all times.Feedback
I found using a bi-pod really helpful here as the lens was un-stabilized.
