Location
I had just got my very first DSLR and was practicing with different lighting. For this one I was facing toward my bedroom window, directly in front of it.Time
If I remember correctly this was at about 4pm. I was trying to get a good shot of my makeup for the day and heard from a photographer friend of mine that 4pm was a really good time to take pictures in front of a window.Lighting
The light was bouncing off the fence right outside the window and on the house on the other side just right to create this somewhat dramatic look.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D50 with a kit lens, 18-55mm. That's all I used.Inspiration
At the time I took this photo I was going to an online school to be a makeup artist and I was trying to capture a good image of my makeup for that day to showcase my work. This shot in particular was actually a happy accident. I was zoomed in more than I was intending, but I liked the image enough to keep it.Editing
Since this was in the first few weeks of buying my first DSLR, I didn't know a single thing about post-processing, so I stayed away from it and didn't do any editing to this image. In my camera bag
I'm in the process of upgrading from my Nikon D50 with kit lens, to a Nikon D3400 with a 50mm lens.Feedback
To get something similar to this you have to not be afraid to zoom in a bit more than you normally would. Usually I wouldn't even consider not including my hair in a shot, but this image just wouldn't be the same had my hair been included. And don't be afraid to play with lighting. This was 4pm which is normally a time of harsh light, but it worked perfectly for me.
