Location
I took this at my friends barn, who is a horse trainer, it is also where I ride. This is the grazing patch.Time
This is one of my favorite images I have taken, it was taking in the morning in August, around 830-9. I remember having to take it early in the morning in order to keep the heat and flies off the foal.Lighting
I absolutely love back lighting, it is one of my favorite techniques. How ever the foal was not even a day old and it was wandering with its mom. I couldn't position them. So I had to position myself in order to get the lighting.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3000 and I believe my 80 mil lens (although I might be mistaken as it was taken two years ago).Inspiration
I absolutely love horses, I am just amazed at there power and grace. I had always wanted to get foal pictures, so when my friend told me her horse gave birth I jumped on the opportunity. In the moment I was just in awe of how cute, and adorable the foal and the mare were together. The bond they had together was so prominent, I just knew I had to capture it.Editing
Yes I usually amp up and play my colors and sharpen the image, I also added a lens flare. The original image had a small lens flare, but it was very dull.In my camera bag
I usually cary my new Nikon D5500, with my 35, 50, and 80 mil lenses. I also cary extra SD cards, and a reflector/diffusor. If I have a planned photoshoot I will also bring any props I may need. Oh and my business cards.Feedback
Let yourself take in the moment. Play around with positioning yourself, keeping the subject backlit. Have fun, animals are unpredictable and won't be in the same spot for too long. Just enjoy it.
