Behind The Lens
Location
This was near my home on our evening walk. Sometimes I take my camera in case the sunset is magnificent or wildlife shows up. But I couldn't help to take a picture of my best friend on this day.Time
This was in the evening time. About a half hour before sunset.Lighting
The lighting was all natural evening sun. It is sitting just behind the tree line in the background.Equipment
This was taken with my main camera, a Nikon D3200. It makes a really good and affordable beginner DSLR. I was using a kit 55-200mm lens. To get the bokeh I wanted I zoomed in a bit back backed up from the subject.Inspiration
Spartacus and I usually take an evening walk. We live close to the Ohio River and there's a man-made dike called the floodwall that has a walking path on the top. We were walking up it and I just had to have a picture. He's getting up there in age and he can't walk far like he used to. I needed another memory of my best friend.Editing
I didn't need to do much, but I did tweak the lighting and contrast just a little bit to take out for the automatic jpeg adjustment the camera software did.In my camera bag
I'm just starting out building my gear. I have a Nikon D3200. I have two kit lenses; a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. I have the wireless adapter. I use a sling strap.Feedback
I recommend the usual. Keep your camera on you as much as possible. Don't discount your phone camera! You pretty much don't go anywhere without it. You may not make National Geographic or Time magazines with it but you can an still get some good shots. And that is practice. Learn the traditional value of the rule of thirds, but don't be afraid to break it now and again. Never stop learning new techniques and learning from other's work. Don't necessarily compare your work with others but make yours your own. Patience.
