This photo was taken in Molly's backyard during a perfect golden hour. I had photographed Molly before, but hated every single picture! I asked if I could reshoot her about a week later and got some of the best shots I've ever taken of a puppy. Getting a second chance when you know you can do better is one of life's little blessings.Time
This was during golden hour at the end of summer in South Carolina.Lighting
I played around with the trifecta of settings (ISO, shutter speed, aperture) until I had the balance I wanted with highlights and shadows. I then changed my white balance to make sure I captured just how warm that evening felt.Equipment
I used my Canon 6D Mark II and my 70-200 f/2.8.Inspiration
I love dogs! This particular photo was because I knew I could photograph Molly better than I had the previous week. I was motivated to prove that I could do better and produce a better product.Editing
I enriched the colors slightly and sharpened a little but otherwise, no post-processing was done!In my camera bag
I have a pancake 40mm lens, a telephoto 70-200 f/2.8, my Canon 6D Mark II and my portrait lens the 85mm f1.8.Feedback
Be patient with yourself and don't let the subject run the shoot. You run your shoot! You know what lighting you're looking for and you have the vision in your head. If your subject requests something specific though, find a way to give them the best version of what they're asking for.
