The Pied Stilt is an introduced species to New Zealand. Elsewhere it is known as the Black-winged Stilt or Black-necked Stilt. They are wading birds and always found near water. I was surprised to see them in the brackish water of the geothermal hot springs Hells Gate in Rotorua, New Zealand
