Guardians of the Milky Way

I've been wanting to capture this shot since last year, after coming across the Skyview App. Unfortunately time & our lovely weather haven't been on my side recently, however yesterday everything managed to align and so i used my sky app to make sure the Milky Way was still within view and also to check what time the moon was setting (1am)

I grabbed my gear and headed for the Lion's Gate at the Downhill.

To be honest i wasn't overly confident the sky would be clear ,however i figured i might get a small window to capture the image i had in mind. I had seen similar images earlier in the month and had been kicking myself as i wasnt able to get out.

I stopped off at Swanns Bridge quickly on the way through as i find this location to be good indicator on how the clouds were performing. Sky looked relatively clear so i proceeded to the Downhill.

This is a single exposure captured on the 5DmkIII with the Samyang 14mm F2.8
