Behind The Lens

Location

In The Wave of Faith was taken in Naga City, Camarines Sur, Philippines.

Time

This was shot on September 20, 2014 during the celebration of Peñafrancia Festival. I can honestly say that while I was taking this photo, I was experiencing goosebumps & I was literally in tears.

Lighting

I just used the ambient light.

Equipment

I used Canon EOS 60D with Tamron 17-50.

Inspiration

I am a devotee of Our Lady of Peñafrancia whom we called INA. Almost every year, I go to Naga to attend the festival & to take photos of the celebration. I consider taking picture of INA as part of my devotion. Peñafrancia Fiesta is both religious & cultural festival. It is celebrated in more than 300 years. Bikolanos are known children of the Blessed Mother as they fondly called Mary as INA. This is part of Bikolano’s Catholic spirituality. Every September, all roads are leading to Naga City, Camarines Sur where six million Bicolanos from Bicol and abroad flock to the city to pay homage to Our Lady of Peñafrancia . Peñafrancia Festival is considered the biggest and most popular religious event in the Philippines. As a Filipino & Bikolano, it is both an honor & reponsobility to promote our culture to the world. It is also a personal journey of self-discovery because we are product of our culture & tradition. As a photographer, I find worth in my talent as it can contribute important part in the history of our region. We are not just photographers. We are storytellers that can educate the next generation. We are historians who capture the time in presenting the actual image of our identity.

Editing

Yes. I did post processing to enhanced the image and that the viewer will focus on the subject. The dark toning of the image adds drama to the photo.

In my camera bag

In my photography bag, my favorite equipment are Canon 6D, Sigma Art 35mm f1.4, Tamron 15-30mm f2.8 VC & Tamron 70-200 f2.8 VC.

Feedback

You should have the HEART to capture the essence of the subject. You should have a connection. It should have meaning in you. With the picture “In The Wave of Faith”, the meaning that connects us is my devotion to INA, Our Lady of Peñafrancia. “Photography is a constant wondering. It is looking for new dimensions. It is unique by its own. Photography is a mixed art of thousand concepts. Photography is capturing by setting free.  Photography is not taking emotions by capturing it; rather it is setting every heart free that the door of our lens would welcome them to eternity. The real capturing moment is when your  consciousness is captured while looking back at the  photographs we have shared in creation.  In other words, you are captured not by my lens but by the photographs you are looking at."
