Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a small, Provincial Park , Park Lake, near where I live in Alberta, Canada.

Time

We were out at the much sought after Golden Hour. The sunset photos we got looked like someone painted them!

Lighting

I wanted to capture the warmth that that time of day gives you, and the colours of the leaves changing along with the outfit choices. I wanted people to feel the warmth love gives you

Equipment

I used a Canon 80D with a 50mm lens for this shot.

Inspiration

The people in this photo are my younger brother and his girlfriend. This was a photo shoot for her birthday. I always enjoy photographing these two as they are very photogenic and willing to do whatever I ask.

Editing

I do edit in Lightroom. The SOOC was very similar to this, having just enhanced the warmth, shadows and upping the highlights around the faces to have a bit of a glow.

In my camera bag

I now have the Canon Mark IV as my primary body, keeping the 80D as a backup/second body. I have a Canon 50mm and a Sigma Art 30mm.

Feedback

The more you practice, the more natural it becomes to you. As a natural light photographer, the warmer, softer the light, the better. Harsh sun = angry faces. Just get out and shoot! Find people who are willing to be your guinea pigs and go! For photographing people and having it look natural and comfortable, I am constantly talking ... cracking jokes, making them laugh, getting sappy for these kind of images. The more comfortable they are with you, the better your results
