This is a (very limited) photo of Vicar's Close in Wells, Somerset (England). I strongly urge anyone who is interested to google this remarkable piece of English history, dating back to Medieval times. According to Wikipedia, Vicar's Close is claimed to be the "oldest purely residential street with surviving buildings in all of Europe," dating back to the mid-14th Century. In this photo, residences are connected to Vicar's Hall over a gateway which leads from Vicar's Close to St. Andrew's Street (and many thanks to Andrew "Click_Here" for his help in identifying this fabulous landmark . . . because I had forgotten the name of the place and it's location).

Indeed, Glenda . . . it was truly amazing to actually BE there and walk down this stone-paved road.

Had to keep reminding myself of how remarkably ancient this place was, Gail . . . and that people from Medieval times walked on the same stones that I did. Mind-boggling!
