Robber fly eyes are very colorful and shooting them in natural space is very difficult as they fly away when you approach to shoot closely. I created this image on a rainy day, the rain had just stopped and this robber fly was resting on the tip of the brown stem. I made several shots and noticed that this robber fly was very friendly to shoot. I had made a mistake of not taking a tripod with me (still planning to buy :-)).
I mounted the Raynox macro filter to the macro lens and thought of approaching this beautiful fly. The first attempt, the fly did fly away. I hoped that the fly will come back to the same place and give me another shot at this attempt, it did come back and start resting. I also had ring flash mounted in front of the Raynox filter. Flash compensation was at 1-4th of a second, the light was dark and I did not want to use high ISO. Using high ISO for macro image gives very less opportunity to make sharper images. Now, in my second attempt, I approached very slowly and told my friend to hold me from the back so that I can make a still object. After few attempts going wrong, and almost catching my breath I made few images, this is the first one. Hope you enjoy this picture!!
