Behind The Lens

Location

The man featured is actually a 3 inch tall cut out cardboard figure coloured in black with a sharpie. I cut two slits in a cardboard box for the tabs on his feet to go and shot with a single light source.

Time

I had been experimenting with silhouettes and photography for a few days, silhouette cutting as an art form actually runs through three generations of my family and so I thought I would give it a go, this was taken in my living room one evening.

Lighting

I wanted a single light source as I really wanted that long shadow, this is just using a single soft box.

Equipment

Taken on a sony a7s with a canon 24-105 on f/4

Inspiration

I love film noir and the use of shadows, I had also been tampering with silhouettes and paper cutting at the time and this is the result

Editing

I made the image monochrome to stay true to the film noir aesthetic I was going for, only other adjustments was a increasing the contrast to make the shadow pop.

In my camera bag

I am actually from a video background and I am currently using an a7s ii, you’ll also find a gimbal, a beautiful old adapted canon 55mm fd prime and a couple of more run of rhe mill lenses.
