Behind The Lens

Location

I had just started working on a small home studio in my home. That is where I do a lot of portrait work at.

Time

This shot was taken during mid day. I was experimenting with different light setups, both flash and ambient.

Lighting

The shot was done with a godox AD200, but I shot around 30 shots before I took this one bouncing back and forth between ambient and flash. I wanted simple and dark so I added Christmas lights for the background and took this final shot with the godox AD200 and felt this was the shot.

Equipment

I mentioned Godox AD200 as the flash used, I used a canon 70D with a canon 50mm 1.8 lense to get a tight closeup shot. The camera is hand held, because what I knew about selfies at the time, I always see people holding their phones out taking pictures of themselves. I tried sticking to the traditional way a selfie is taken.

Inspiration

I seen a selfie challenge, so I said why not?

Editing

I love the band Bauhaus so that was my inspiration for the picture.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS R. Canon 135mm f2l, Canon 85mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8. Sekonic L308s-u light meter.

Feedback

Experiment. Sometimes you keep adding and subtracting different props but keeping it simple is where I find most success.
