Shetland ponies originated in the Shetland Isles, located northeast of mainland Scotland. Small horses have been kept on the Shetland Isles since the Bronze Age. People who lived on the islands probably later crossed the native stock with ponies imported by Norse settlers. Shetland ponies also were probably influenced by the Celtic Pony, brought to the islands by settlers between 2000 and 1000 BC. The harsh climate and scarce food developed the ponies into extremely hardy animals.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot out in the country area around Peshtigo Wisconsin. There are plenty of farms around here to take shots of farm animals.

Time

This shot was taken during the early evening time, right around 6:30 pm during the late Spring time.

Lighting

I'm not a pro photographer so I mainly use the lighting that mother nature provides.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS REBEL T3i with a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens.

Inspiration

I pick up my camera and shoot anything and everything that I found interesting. I never go anywhere without my camera. While living with level 10 pain and walking with a cane ( at times I use a manual wheelchair ) but when I am out with my camera. But I do love taking pictures of any farm animals and horses are my favorite.

Editing

I really didn't need much post processing with this shot except for a tilt shift blur and some color adjustments.

In my camera bag

I use a Canon EOS REBEL T3i with a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens and my trusty Canon PowerShot SX540 HS.

Feedback

I find the best time to take shots for farm animals is during the evening on a sunny day. The sunlight really shows the fine hairs on their bodies for great backlighting.
