This photo was take in the Dordogne Valley in France, a region with delicious food and wine, fascinating history, and gorgeous views.Time
My husband and I woke up early to tour the Chateaux before our morning stop at the market for breakfast. We saw this balloon coming over the river valley as we arrived and I ran to get to high ground so I can get a shot of it over the water. When we got home with our croissants, our teenagers were just waking up.Lighting
The morning light is just so pretty there. We woke up most mornings to a beautiful fog and when it lifted the light was soft and pretty.Equipment
I used my Fuji xt2 and my 18-55 lens - the only lens I brought on this trip. It was my first trip since switching to the Fuji and I was still getting to know my new gear. I absolutely love travelling with the Fuji - so light and so powerful. I worried about only having one lens but it really came through as an all around lens.Inspiration
France is always beautiful but the Dordogne region in particular is magical. There are heartstopping views around every corner. Every town looks a scene out of Beauty and The Beast.Editing
I didn't do very much to this image. I brought up the shadows a little bit and applied a bit of split toning to play up the soft sunrise colours. In my camera bag
I switched over to Fuji last year so I am still working on rounding out my bag. I always have the 18-55 Fuji lens, which I just love. It's small and light and really very good. For travel and hikes and days on the go, I try to keep my bag light so often that's about all I have. If I know I need more reach I'll also bring my Fuji 55-200. And I picked up the Rokinon 12mm F1.8 for night shots and wide landscapes recently. I'm saving up for some of the primes in the Fuji lineup.Feedback
It's always tough to find time on family trips to take pictures without interruption (or complaints). Waking up early, or going out for night shoots after everyone is in bed is sometimes the easier than trying to be a mom and taking pictures at the same time. That way I can focus on the family when I'm with them, and scope out locations during the day knowing I'll come back later on my own.
