This was George Harrison's mine in 1886. Not George Harrison of Beatles fame, but George Harrison the drifter who stumble onto the discovery of the richest gold field on the planet. Now in the 21st Century unemployed African men are descending with hammers, chisels, buckets and spades into the depths of the earth to dig out a living from what remains of the gold after almost 130 years of mining.
