Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Bournemouth airshow which annually features an interesting mixture of new & old aircraft

Time

From memory it was in the afternoon - there wasn't so much choice as the airshow runs on a rigid flying schedule!

Lighting

I didn't want the image to just look like a stock aircraft image. The darker exposure with the red accent of the aircraft gives it something different

Equipment

This was shot with a canon Eos 700D with a sigma 18-250mm lens which provides decent zoom range. Servo continuous autofocus with lots of handheld panning was the order of the day

Inspiration

Being an engineer I've always had a passion for fast moving vehicles and they don't get much quicker than jets!

Editing

Lightroom is my normal go to with adjustments made to exposure, contrast as well as converting to b&w with the red accents. Added a vignette as a finishing touch

In my camera bag

I like to pack light so a body with a travel lens is my normal stating point. I've a canon Eos RP with the 24-240mm native lens which works well.

Feedback

Well for picturing aircraft my suggestion is to take a heck of a load of photos as you can guarantee so many will be blurry or oddly Framed! Setting the camera to a continuous autofocus or sports mode is key also.
