Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken Brakpan Airfield, on the East Rand, a short distance flying wise from Johannesburg International Airport.

Time

This was an sunset / dusk shoot, taken at about 18:35:54 on the 2017:02:11 with the local sunset of 18:51.

Lighting

Very lucky shot, they talk about right time and place, well this was one of those. However practice and all those learning curves came before it. With huge shadows cast from the hangers I got great lighting with the plane been high enough to be hit by sunlight, and close enough with the Zoom help to get amazing shot.

Equipment

A Canon EOS 760D with TAMRON SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD A011

Inspiration

The sunset behind me, I need to practice more with sun setting as every 2 minute the conditions change, near the end of the day after spending the day at Brakpan Airfield, for an event held by Airborne Aviation flight school, based at Brakpan Airfield (FABB). Used for the cover of the flying school facebook page as it was their aircraft - https://www.facebook.com/airborneaviationsa/ - as the owner was pleased with the image.

Editing

Minimal Trim and landscape adjustment, with a crop to clean it up, size reduction for usage on Viewbug and Facebook and some other social media platforms.

In my camera bag

Hi-Viz safety vest and wide brim hat, since I am plane spotter. A Canon EOS 760D with TAMRON SP 150-600mm A Canon EOS 700D with Sigma 18-250mm and Canon SX200. spare batteries and memory cards with remote if need. the back can also handle a tablet and small pc.

Feedback

Be different, experiment, I am normally outside the airport perimeter of the larger airports, so try the smaller locations, make it known you on site, or get the valid authority to allow you to enjoy the location with freedom of movement, but be safe, not a hazard to others or a danger to yourself. Be patience, know your camera, and practice this was image 8536 on this camera, and I had over 9000 on my other camera. Go on this camera course offered on a new purchase even if you have other camera's. You are always learning.
