Location
The photo was taken in local barbershop, where my friend gets hair cut since his childhood. If I remember correctly his father has also been used to have hair cut by same barber.Time
It was around 10AM when we got here. It was beginning of the day, and beginning of everything, the whole wedding ceremony, excitement waiting throughout the next 2 days.Lighting
There was natural light coming from the door and window behind me, but due to the distance from the door and size of windows, time of the day, location of the sun and sky brightness the ambiance in the barbershop was dark for good sharp photo, especially for image with freezing moments, thus top flash was a need, so did I.Equipment
Used Canon 70D handheld with a flash on top. The lens attached was 24-70mm 2.8L USM and shot at 70mm f/3.2Inspiration
When my friend invited me to his wedding I was already thinking - a wedding is one of the most important events in our life. The ceremony might be starting at some part of the day, but actually everything beyond the wedding party is part of this important event, so all details must be recorded as memory. So I also went with him to barbershop to take some shots. It was probably the only time when I was watching somebody washed in barbershop so closely and attentively. While his hair was being washed the reflection of him and flowing water attracted my attention.Editing
Hadn't done much things in post processing - only a bit color process and sharpness added to make water splash to stand out.In my camera bag
Primarily carry EF-28mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 if have very limited space or if the location open space then only EF-S 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. If I take a big bag then also EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 STM, 8mm f/3.5 whenever possible, a top flash and couple of remote controls together with a tripod.Feedback
In such images where moment freezing is aimed to be gotten, faster shutter speed has to be set. If the location isn't bright sufficiently then a flash is compulsory. Some may say bringing up ISO is also choice, sure it's if there is no additional light source or no possibility to use it. But personally I don't like grain so my preference is flashlight whenever possible. I would prefer this shot to be take a bit far away. Well right now I don't remember why the image was taken so close with long focal length @70mm. The space inside was limited and the things were happening faster - some people could get into the scene. Might be also I avoided a wide angle shot to not make his hand to stand out in the image so had to shoot close up. If I had a chance to do it again I would at least to try to shoot also a bit wider.
