Behind The Lens

Location

I was visiting my dad who lives on the big island of hawaii. His house is in a secluded neighborhood, on the side of a mountain, at about 4,000 feet elevation. I was standing on his 2nd story balcony, which has an ocean and mountain view, & this photo was taken from the balcony looking eastward, towards the rising sun.

Time

One thing hawaii has, is remarkable sunrises. I took this during the predawn hours. The first hint of color in the sky woke me up, so i grabbed my phone and headed towards the balcony. I watched the entire sunrise, and unfortunately the picture doesnt even do it justice. The morning smell, the faint chirp of birds, the colors that took over the heavens... this photo is just a glimpse of the beauty that unfolded that morning.

Lighting

It was dawn. In hawaii. At 4,000 feet up. The lighting does it own thing, i just enjoyed. Blessed.

Equipment

My samsung s7. My camera phone. I cant say what or even if i used a filter. Possibly not. But i cant remember for sure, because as i recall that morning, thats what i saw. Thats what woke me. Those colors in the sky.

Inspiration

The colors inspired me. Anything that vivid, that breathtaking to wake me up, was worthy of being shared with the world.

Editing

Nope. Not that i can think of. Just took the panoramic shot and was happy with it.

In my camera bag

My samsung s7 camera phone. Before the s8 even came out. I had spent probably 8 solid hours doing research on phones, i wanted the best. And i narrowed it down to what feature i use the most, and its the camera. Then i had to research from numerous sources, which phone had the very best camera. It was the s7, which i still have and am very happy with it.

Feedback

Always have something easily accessible you can very quickly take pictures with. Sometimes all you have is a moment, maybe the next. Just go for it. Dont hesitate. Dont over analyze. The element of surprise is often the shot you want. And this sunrise, definitely surprised me.
