Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during our family vacation at Malaekahana beach in Kahuku, Hawaii. The vacation house we rented is facing east. A perfect place to capture the sun rising.

Time

It was around 5am. I was still a bit sleepy, but the glare of the sun through the bedroom window made me jump off the bed. I don't want to miss this beautiful sight.

Lighting

I did not use any special lightning or filtering. What makes this photo interesting is the natural light coming from the morning sun. The amount of clouds and how it was evenly spread creates a great filtering effects.

Equipment

I used the Sony A5000 SLR mirrorless camera, which my husband recently gifted to me.

Inspiration

I love nature. It seems magical every time I see sun rise. There is always some uniqueness in it that makes it so special.

Editing

I don't do post processing. The most I do is a simple light or contrast adjustment.

In my camera bag

You will find two DSLR cameras--a Nikon and a Sony, and Nikon waterproof camera in my backpack camera bag. I always take with me zoom lens for both DSLR cameras, various filter lenses, which I never have used.

Feedback

Capturing sunrise requires dedication and patience. You got to wake up early and be there at the right time. Examine your surroundings and create the image you want to capture. Sometimes, it won't come out like we imagined, but hopefully it is better. Like in this photo, I was the only one at the beach, at least at the beginning. I imagined something else. I had a different angle in mind, but the presence of the lady in this photo changed the plan. I had an amazing result.
