This photo was taken on one of my construction projects, Founders Lodge, a Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The Blue Crane is the National Bird of South Africa on the vulnerable list. When one morning I heard them calling I grabbed my camera and took a drive onto the reserve to find them doing the mating dance. I managed to take two photos of the dance before they flew off. This was a chance photo, 1 in a million.Time
Photo was taken mid-morningLighting
It was a great, sunny, clear skied day. No time to take lighting into consideration.Equipment
This shot was taken with my Panasonic Lumix FZ200 camera, a super zoom digital. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
The Blue Crane is on the decline and not often seen or heard in the Eastern Cape so when I heard them calling for the 1st time that morning I just had to get some pics and was fortunate enough to witness the mating dance of which I managed two pics before they flew off. The pair did remain on the reserve for the rest of the season but I never again got close enough for decent photos.Editing
Cropped, nothing else.In my camera bag
Now, my upgraded Panasonic Lumix FZ 330 camera, spare battery, spare 128GB memory card, cleaning kit and a Hahnel Modus 600RT External Flash. I also have a tripod and sand bag.Feedback
Always try have your camera with you and ready for action especially in game reserves. You never know when you will get that 1 in a million shot. Photography is my hobby, my preference is wildlife. Fortunately due to my work as a Project Manager in Construction specializing in Game Lodges, I get to live on many game reserves.
