Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Werribee Open Range Zoo in Melbourne Australia. I had taught myself at the time how to take photos then. It took quite a few shots before I worked out how to get the framing and the natural lighting right.

Time

It was the first day of spring and the lions were out enjoy the sun on the beautiful day. The sky was clear and it was a perfect start to spring. Every animal was soaking in the sun but the lions were enjoying it the most. This was taken September 2015.

Lighting

I just used the natural light for this picture as it was a beautiful spring day.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 550D with a Tamron lens 18-270mm.

Inspiration

I love taking photos of animals/wildlife so being able to go to Werribee Open Range Zoo and take pictures of some beautiful animals was amazing. I find that animals and wildlife show raw beauty and the lions really showed power and that’s what inspired me to try capture a good photo.

Editing

No I didn’t so any post-processing.

In my camera bag

I always have my camera, lens cleaner, a spare battery and memory card. As a beginner I don’t carry much with me.

Feedback

Just take continuous photos because there has to be one good one in there. Being a beginner that is what I have learnt to do. I am still learning the ins and outs of my camera. If the animal moves just keep taking pictures because you never know what you might capture.
