Location
This photo was taken in Alaska with the eagle on a rock around 600 metres away from meTime
Was taken at 8am in the morningLighting
Lighting was very good - needs to be as you cannot be close - easily scare the eagle away if you are too closeEquipment
Canon 1DX11 with Sigma Sports 160 - 600 mm lens. Benro Tripod with Gimbal head. The Gimbal head is useful on a big lens for versatilityInspiration
Eagles are very beautiful birds and I already have photos of eagles in flight so I wanted to concentrate on the eye and very powerful beak to show the power of the birdEditing
I do very little post processing - if a picture is not good enough after a maximum of 3 minutes post processing I delete - all I do is crop - I shoot in raw and make the photo lighter or darkerIn my camera bag
I plan my shots before I pack my gear and think what I am going to shoot and where - try to focus and pack equipment accordingly - only pack what you really need - not for speculation as equipment can be heavyFeedback
You need to research the subject you are going to shoot in advance and if it’s an eagle like mine - think of the shot you want to achieve in your mind -and look also at the lighting and weather in advance - an eagle can move so fast so you need a fast lens and be prepared to be a distance away so you do not disturb it
