Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken in a limestone cave in Qingdao in the Shandong province of China.

Time

It was actually in the middle of the day, but of course none of the natural light could enter this section of the cave and everything was lit by artificial light.

Lighting

The photo was originally a lot darker as the spotlights they used in the cave were also dimmed to prevent further damages to the limestone formations. Such that flashes from the camera was also prohibited. With such external restrictions, I had to rely on shutter speed and aperture size to shoot as much as I can, and rely on editing for the rest.

Equipment

A simple Nikon D5200 DSLR.

Inspiration

The cave was an absolute magnificent sight to behold. The natural formation of limestone was extensive in this cave, so much that they had named the cave the Underground Grand Canyon. Shooting in almost complete darkness was difficult, but I did not want to miss any chance for a shot like this.

Editing

Yes, lots of it. Most of my photos turned out dark, so I had to use photoshop to artificially brighten it.

In my camera bag

My DSLR, an extra battery and the battery charger.

Feedback

Always seize the moment. Whether the photo look good or not at that moment, click away anyways. Because in photography, luck is as huge of an element as skills are. And luck favors the frequent.
