Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Hasbruch National Park in Lower Saxony in Germany.

Time

It was around 2 PM.

Lighting

The cloudy weather helped get the perfect soft light for this shot, which otherwise, at this time of the day, I would have never managed to get.

Equipment

I used my old Nikon D5000 with a 35 mm f1.8 prime lens hand held.

Inspiration

It was a very quiet day and this side way made me think of the metaphorical roads we follow in life. Seem rugged at first but who knows what we will find once we start walking.

Editing

I decreased slightly the highlights and the shadows to bring back some detail. Added some contrast via curves and a touch of sharpening.

In my camera bag

My bag is quite simple: a camera body (usually the Nikon d5000) with my two current favourite lenses, the Nikkor 50 mm f1.4 and the Nikkor 35 mm f1.8. I'm a sucker for soft backgrounds and narrow depth of field. Besides that, I usually pack my favoruite ND and CPL filrters, my GoPro Hero 5. Oh and let's not forget extra batteries and memory cards!

Feedback

All you have to do is look around, observe where you are and try to see everything you can. Once you've found a motive you would like to capture, play around with the light, angles and perspectives, don't just go for the obvious shot.
