Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my boyfriends bedroom. All walls in his room are black, so I figured it would be a nice background. This was made in Sweden.

Time

The picture was shot somewhere in the afternoon. We used blinds to cover up the window.

Lighting

I decided to use this single lightbulb. One of these which look oldschool, with the little glowing thread in the middle. I chose this lamp because it had such a nice warm glow. We kept the room dark by covering up the windows (as said above).

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7100 and a 50mm lens (also nikon). I did not use a tripod, I asked if my boyfriend wanted to assist me by holding the camera and I told him where to stand and how to focus and such, so he basically pushed the shutterbutton on my commands. I was holding the lamp even though you can’t tell :D

Inspiration

I love experimenting with makeup and lighting. I wanted something lush and golden yet moody. I like avant-garde makeup styles. It can change up someone’s appearance so drastically.

Editing

Yes I did edit the picture. At the time I only had Photoshop, so no Lightroom was used. I just adjusted the highlights, made them brighter and made the shadows slightly darker. I played around a bit with blue hues in the highlights.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Nikon D7100 with a 35mm lens. I do however always take my Lensbaby Scout mount with the Twist60 optic. This lens creates a bokeh effect which is similar to the old Petzval lens.

Feedback

Just don’t worry about the outcome. Play around with angles, with the lighting and just have fun. If it doesn’t work out, then don’t worry about it. We live in a digital era, a bad picture is not as expensive anymore as it used to be back in the analogue days.
