Location
We took this photo at a little river in Norco, CA. It’s a perfect location because there’s a lot of tree cover over the water for great lighting.Time
If I remember correctly it was about 10 am or so.Lighting
I don’t remember anything particular about the lighting. I like shooting with water though because you get nice sun reflection from the water.Equipment
This was shot with a Sony A7 with a Canon 50mm f 1.8. I had a converter for the lens and focused the shot manually.Inspiration
I’ve had this image in my head for a long time. We were at the location and I asked her to pose in this certain way (which actually looked pretty silly outside the lens). She giggles and I promised her the end shot would look good and she wouldn’t look as funny as she feels. With the right frame crop I ended up with my photo. I showed her the photo later on and she was blown away at the end product,Editing
Oh yes! Spot healing some sand in places I didn’t want it, dodge and burn, and some Lightroom magic. In my camera bag
I always have my A7, and my three (cheap) go to lenses. I haven’t invented heavily in lenses just yet but I hope to some day. My go to lenses are 50mm 1.8. My 85mm 1.4, and my 24mm pancake lens. I usually shot with manual focus.Feedback
Don’t be afraid to ask your model to pose in a “silly” way if it’s the shot that’s in your head. Sure you might end up with a photo that gets trashed, but you also might end up with a great shot. Trust your head and always give it a try!
