Sunset at Bushland Beach, Townsville, Qld AU. I was shooting the rising moon with a reverse sunset and when I turned around found these amazing colours happening. Good reminder to always look around while you're shooting.

Location
This photo was taken at Bushland Beach, Townsville, north QueenslandTime
This image was taken at sunset at about 6:20pm. I had gone to Bushland Beach to try to capture the moon rising above the beach. When I started taking the moon shots, the sunset had looked quite poor, so I concentrated on the moon. Then, I turned around and saw this amazing colour and rushed to set up to capture it.Lighting
I did not attempt to lighten this image in post-production, as the amazing deep colours of this sunset contrasted perfectly with the silhouettes of the trees in the water, and the sand.Equipment
This image was shot on a Canon EOS 70D with a Tamron 18-270mm lens at 54mm as I wanted to frame the water with the trees and sand. This image was taken at 3.2 sec, f/10, ISO-200 on a Promaster tripod.Inspiration
Bushland Beach is a great place for sunsets and sunrises, with amazing small trees just off the shore to give some structure to your images. On this afternoon I was at the southern end of the beach where a small creek spills out into the sea, which was a great background for the rising moon. It also gave me a beautiful view to the north/west for the setting sun. The colour was just amazing and I am so glad I was able to capture it to be able to share it with other people.Editing
With this image I did not do a lot of post-processing. Just a little balance correction was all that was required. In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Canon EOS 70D camera with Tamron 18-270mm lens and Promaster tripod. I always have a remote shutter control for taking images like this to prevent camera shake, and a small torch which really helps in the dark when you are trying to set your camera up. I have an ND filter and a small clearning brush and cloth for my lens, as well as a small paint brush to keep my camera dust free. As I appear to be very appealing to mosquitos and sandflies and react badly to any bites, I also carry a can of insect repellent. And, just in case of unexpected rain, I carry a small foldable umbrella to protect my camera.Feedback
My best advice is patience. Oh, and to look around you as you shoot! This particular day the sunset started off very poor, with hardly any colour at all. There was not a lot of cloud cover, so I was not expecting to get much colour and was more focused on shooting the moon rise. I was there for probably two hours all up. If I had been focusing only on the sunset, I might have left earlier thinking it was dissapointing, or had I not looked around while I was shooting the moon, I would have missed this amazing opportunity.
