I have hiked across the wild plateau of Kinder Scout in the English Peak District many times, but this lonely pine tree is the only tree I have ever found. If saplings try to grow in this environment, they tend to be nibbled away by sheep. I admire this tree, which stands alone in all weathers and endures.
