Behind The Lens

Location

The photo of this path was taken on a hike near Mount Pisgah 5722 feet above sea level. Mount Pisgah is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Canton NC. The path leads to an overlook into a beautiful valley.

Time

The Blue Ridge Mountains have many areas that are beautiful for taking photographs. This particular photo was taken around 10am and was incredible to take due to the lighting. Pisgah has many areas around it perfect for practicing your photography skills.

Lighting

As mentioned the lighting for some reason was perfect to capture this shot. There were not to many shadows and the light coming through the trees produced a soft light for the perfect shot.

Equipment

The camera used to take the photo was a Canon Power Shot S500, ISO 50 and an aperture of 2.8

Inspiration

While hiking there was something about the trail that captivated my attention. So as and amateur photographer I had to take a picture of the path. It offered me the chance to hone my skills.

Editing

I do post-processing using Lightroom 6. I find Lightroom offers all the tools needed to perk up and enhance my photos. However this particular photo required very little post-processing.

In my camera bag

My normal equipment used in my photography is my Nikon D3300. My lenses are the kit lenses that came with the camera. A Nikon AF-S 18-55mm and a Nikon AF-S 55-300mm zoom lens. I carry various filters ( polarizing, ND 4, ND 8, and 4 graduating filters). My kit also includes a graphite cleaning pen, cleaning cloth, extra battery and an addition 16GB card. My tripod is a Sunpak Ultra PG600.

Feedback

My main advise is practice, practice and more practice. Make sure to take several photo's of the same location using various settings in order to capture your best shot.
