Location
This is in Budapest, Hungary. In Buda castle , built in Moorish style, between 1895 and 1902....as a place with the most panoramic views over the Danube and across to Pest. I was there for a few days only, to visit a friend that l met in Saigon a few years ago.It was my first trip to Hungary . I never go anywhere without at least one camera. On impulse , I bought a Tablet at Stanstead airport before departure. This trip to Hungary was the inaugural outing for the device. The photo is in the grounds of the fishermans Bastion. This is a very popular tourist spot ( No 1 ), and a photographer's dream.Time
The time of the photo was afternoon ish. I had been in situ for most of the day. The day started cloudy and dull but the afternoon weather was forecast to be sunny . So, I decided to stay put and wait for the sun to make it's welcomed appearance . And then, I took many photos in the glorious weather . Because the castle faces south , the sun was going to light up the place.Lighting
We photographers know that the angle of the sun can make a photo into a picture. So, having scanned the area , I noticed the glass fronted Hotel at the back of the Bastion , and I thought it would be Ideal for reflecting light onto the structure's north facing side. So , l waited till the sun was at the most favourable angle , and .....this was the result. No fancy equipment, no flash , no photoshop. Just a flick of a switch to change it from colour to B&W. Both versions are on my Viewbug file.Equipment
The camera l used was a Samsung SM -T 550 Tablet. 5 mp f/ 2.2 ( Auto settings ) No tripod, no flash.Inspiration
During my stay in Budapest , I tried to see as much of the ' cities', as l could . I saw quite a bit of the Budapest area , but l was mostly fascinated by 'The Bastion' . With all the different aspects of the place , and the changing weather , l had to keep going back there to improve on the photos that l had already taken. ( They needed blue sky and fluffy white clouds ) So, when the sun came out , at last , I was where I wanted to be to catch this shot.Editing
The photo is just a B&W copy of the original colour shot. One push of the button...... in the editing suite in the tablet ......another push of the button ....chose B&W ......last push of the button ....SAVE . SIMPLES !In my camera bag
I have had many cameras in my life . Most of my photography equipment was stolen some time back. So, having reached the Digital era , l borrowed cameras from friends to aclimatise to the modern Systems. I bought a samsung pocket camera , a smaller nikon snappy camera , and for other shots l used mobile smart phones ( had a few of them ) .....Then l bought the Tablet. I keep buying other cameras , when the mood takes me .Feedback
Always be alert to the lighting , the sun , the angle of the sun , the different settings on your device.. Check about for glass fronted buildings for reflected light . and small clouds in a blue sky during the day . Change to night settings for good effect in the later hours.
