Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my balcony in Winnipeg, MB. As an avid gardener I was so happy and intrigued when I found and bought a Dahlia as i had not ever had one! This flower sat front and centre on my little patio table and since I love being outdoors I studied the Dahlia daily loving its brilliance and difference compared to other flowers I had. I just had to photograph the Dahlia and its many blooms trying to capture its beauty as I I saw it.

Time

likely I took the picture in the earlier part of the day

Lighting

I get strong sunshine later in the day which would wash out the colors I wanted to catch so I took Picture before the sun was shining right on it

Equipment

I believe I used my phone camera though I do prefer using my Nikkon. I haven't been able to upload from the Nikkon to my computer for quite awhile, but very pleased with how the picture turned out anyway!

Inspiration

The beauty of the Dahlia struck me with its pinky red colors filling the centre and gently blending into the white petal at the tips while still leaving a pink tinge on the outside rim of the petals.

Editing

There was no post processing done on this picture other than clipping ..

In my camera bag

when using my Nikkon, i carry an extra battery, lens cleaner, and larger lens.

Feedback

i feel like my eyes are the camera, what i call my 'minds eye'. I envision how i would like to see an object or scenery placed in a frame... I could feel a draw to one part of the scenery or the scene as a whole. With the Dahlia, I was in awe of the intricit details and color blending and when i get that feeling, I want to be able to capture the part or color that makes me feel that way, because i want to share 'what i see' with others.
