Location
One day walking around a park in Okinawa, Japan i came across these blossoms that had fallen from the trees after a rain storm.Time
The picture was taking in the evening right after the storm had passed through.Lighting
The lighting was naturally flat because of the storm clouds but because of the strong contrast of the bright orange flowers and grey pavement the light was actually perfect for this shot.Equipment
The photo was taken with my Nikon D850 and my 28-200mm lens. I just layed on the ground and got as close as my lens would focus and shot the image.Inspiration
The storm had done me a great favor. Not only had the rain caused all these orange blossom to fall of the tree but the breeze that followed the storm had caused all the flowers to lay aiming the same direction!! Seeing this I knew it was a perfect opportunity to catch a flower with some beautiful orange bokeh caused by the flowers behind.Editing
The post processing of this image was fairly simple. I made the typical exposure and tone adjustments simply with a press of the auto button in lightroom. The light was very flat so i added a bit of contrast and some vibrance and concentration saturation adjustments to bring out a bit more of the orange. Lastly all it needed was a crop to finish with a pleasing composition.In my camera bag
I typically carry my Nikon D850 and D810 as my back up. I also keep a a 35mm, 55mm, and 20mm prime all in the 1.4-1.8 range. I use a Manfrotto CP190 and Manfrotto geared head, Rites Color checker and a light meter.Feedback
Always look around you for great pictures... Don’t look for the obvious shots because someone has already taken those a 100 times before you. Look for this shots that are not so obvious because often the best photo is the one that wasn’t so obvious.
