Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Animal Kingdom, Florida, Unites States. It's a bit sad to see the animals at the zoo but it was an opportunity to appreciate this magnificent male gorilla.

Time

It was near noon. The gorilla's place had an outdoor and an indoor sector. The picture was taken in the latter, so there was little light, but enough to prevent using the flash. This was important to avoid disturbing the animal.

Lighting

I wanted to capture the gorilla's face, so I needed a zoom. But I didn't have a tripod! This, combined with the lighting conditions, forced me to increase the ISO number to achieve a better combination of shutter speed and deph of field. I wanted to achieve a sharp image of his face.

Equipment

I used a Canon T6i with a 55-250 mm lens. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

This was a beautifull and impressive animal. You don't want to meet him face to face in the middle of the jungle. Also his expresions remins a lot to humans. I waited (not so much) until he looked at me and I took the picture.

Editing

I reframed the picture a bit. Also, I increased the contrast and the intensity of colors.

In my camera bag

Additionally, I have a 18-55 mm lens, a polarizer filter and a small tripod.

Feedback

You cannot tell a wild animal what to do so you have to be patient and try several shots in order to achieve the desired result. Also is important to try to disturb it as least as posible. Of course this is easier at a zoo than in the wild life.
