The Royal Albatross is one of the largest sea birds with a wingspan of up to 3 meters. This photo was taken at the Royal Albatross Center, the world’s only mainland breeding colony of Royal Albatross, on the Otago Peninsula near Dunedin, New Zealand. The day we visited was cold, rainy and very windy. The photographs suffered from this weather, but the Albatross' loved the lift provided by the wind. They literally just unfolded their wings and took off. Here, two males trying to land gracefully in front of their mates. The are not very graceful while on land, but magnificent when soaring high.
