Behind The Lens
Location
On the island of Mykonos; Greece during our 2017 summer vacation. I received my first SLR camera I was sixteen. I had stopped taking pictures after college a good 25 years ago. I thought myself until 4 years ago I took a few classes at a community college to jump back into photography. I bought me a new DSLR and it has been great fun since.Time
We had just come back from a day excursion and decided to eat dinner in the old city before heading back to our hotel. It was late evening probably around 6:30; May 2nd 2017. It was a beautiful sunset. It was an opportunity that I couldn't pass when I saw the ferry moving across; so I waited when it was close to the setting sun to start shooting. I took 3 to 5 shots this one is best alignment of the ferry in reference to the sun.Lighting
I didn't have a tripod so with such little light I went as low in shutter speed that I could (1/80 sec) holding the camera as steady as I could to get the most light in. I always shoot manual. I set my shutter speed and aperture so it was a challenge using a Zoom to get the ferry into the picture and enough light to get a useful picture.Equipment
It was a Nikon 750D; Nikkor lens (70-300 4.5-6.6)Inspiration
Spur of the moment; I wasn't looking for the shot; it presented itself to me. Every evening on these Greek Islands you get great sunset; now is what else can introduce to make it more interesting. This was the perfect opportunity when I caught the ferry moving across and the sun going down in flame.Editing
Yes; to help in the exposure; the original didn't have enough lightIn my camera bag
I travel with two Camera bags. One carries usually all my equipment's. It is a backpack and it fits packs: Nikkor 14-24 2.8; Nikkor 70-200 2.8; Nikkor 28-300 3.5-5.6; Nikkor 24-70 2.8; and a prime Nikkor 50 prime 1.4. This is to get to my destination. Then I use a smaller bag everyday use. The challenge you need a hotel with a safe to secure these lenses while your are out. I choose different lenses depending on the activities for that day. In terms of with me all the time Nikkor 70-200 2.8; Nikkor 28-300 3.5-5.6 and Nikkor 5.0 prime 1.4.Feedback
Patience and always carry your camera with you. This one is definitely one that I didn't regret carrying my Nikon around; which sometimes can feel heavy. A friend of mine always say; you will not be taking great pictures sitting in your living room and I usually answer if you are going to be out there be ready to capture these great moments that come your way.
