Behind The Lens

Location

On the TGV from Paris to Toulon. The window was dirty, hence the white splotches in the shot

Time

Taken in the afternoon, luckily the sun was not shining directly into the window, I was able to capture the reflection, though

Lighting

I took what I got, as no choice in the matter with regard lighting.

Equipment

Taken with a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS bridge camera

Inspiration

I was trying to capture a high speed shot of the TGV going in the other direction, but had no idea when they were coming, so just had to wait & started playing with reflections as a result.

Editing

Converted to B&W in post as the dynamic range was high & the end result was much more dramatic than the colour version. I used Nik SilverEfx Pro & PS CS4

In my camera bag

Still wearing my L plates, so I only have the bridge camera with UV, Polaroid & ND filters to play with at present.

Feedback

Capturing reflections is tricky, so be patient! Making small adjustments to the angle relative to the reflective surface often results in a dramatic improvement to the shot - just experiment & practice.
