'Another Mega-rarity in NH!!!'

The alert went out at 11:21 on the NH.Birds server. I finally saw the reports coming in at 12:39... Indeed there was a BROWN BOOBY, a bird of Tropical waters, at an inland pond. Not at the shore where one would expect a pelagic species to be. Pelagic species live their lives on the high seas, only coming to land to breed.

This is the very FIRST record of a BROWN BOOBY ever in New Hampshire, including any possible off-shore accounts in NH waters.

As you can imagine, I took many photographs; yes, over 1,000 of a single bird. There were many other birders taking photographs to document this record.
The bird stayed on the roof, occasionally flying off, circling the pond out of sight for the most part, and then came back to us. This really blew my mind.
We were hoping to see it dive for a fish. Brown Boobys dive straight down with wings tucked from a height of up to 50', and can dive to a depth of 6 feet! Not sure if anyone saw it thru the day or not.
The bird had been at this location since noon the previous day. It spent the night on the deck.

A little about Brown Boobys:
"Brown Booby populations are declining. The Waterbird Conservation for the Americas estimates a population of 280,000-300,000 breeders, rates the species a 14 out of 20 on the Continental Concern score, and considers it a Species of High Concern. Brown Booby are on the 2014 State of the Birds Watch List, which lists bird species that are at risk of becoming threatened or endangered without conservation action."
Nesting on tropical islands, "the Brown Booby is the only ground-nesting booby that regularly builds a substantial nest."
(Cornell Lab of Ornithology)
