Photo taken at a Rural Home in Peel Mandurah Western Australia.Time
I was just visiting an old friend and happened to have a camera with me. Fred never liked his photograph to be taken and hardly ever smiled. As I approached he turned in his chair that was out in a paddock on his property at about Midday . I snapped him free hand as it was not a set up and took my chances and its about the only photo that he nearly smiled in. So its a ever lasting image of my old friend who died about 4 years agoLighting
It was a nice day , not too hot and the light was just about right so I was just luckyEquipment
I believe I used a Nikon D90 and a standard lens No tripod or flash used. Like I said I nearly always carry a camera and this was just a free hand a lucky shotInspiration
The subject matter was there I had a camera so I used it. Fred like I said was not a person who smiled and would never pose for a shot so I did it to irritate him in a friendly wayEditing
It was originally shot in a colour and was converted to grey scale as it added to his features that were etched in time. Other than that no post processing was done.In my camera bag
I normally do photography that is targeted so I am set up for what I want to shoot. i have a varied amount of filters a flash separate to the camera flash I have a quite a few lenses and a number of cameras but try to keep it simple. The old D90 seems to be my favorite in combination with 70 200 mm lens. that seems to cover most of the targets I shoot While I have other better cameras I am set in my ways and the old D90 Nikon seems to feel comfortable.Feedback
Here in Western Australia the weather in the summer is harsh and very bright so I have to watch the light settings a lot. About this image its advisable to carry a camera that you are comfortable with and a lens that allows some variation. The name of the game with me is see it , shoot it and hope for the best. I am not into shooting people but Fred begged to be to be frozen in time with his character showing as he loved the " old" Australia and the bush. So to cap it off shoot wherever and when possible and sometimes it works out.
