Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at El Jardin Beach down Seabrook Texas. Its a little quite beach owned and maintained by Pasadena City. Going there is very interesting, it's like driving through tight residential street roads and on a slow paced at 25mph with lots of stop signs, eventually opening up to a wide sandy beach.

Time

Its summer season. Sun sets down at around 2000. I was walking and looking for spot around the beach. It was around 1830, the sun was already getting low on the horizon.

Lighting

The sun light was sitting on this grass bushes. There were lot of trees to where the sun was setting down. I know I had to hurry to get the shot. I had to place my model there to where the sun is on her back to get highlights especially on her beautiful hair. One light on a 22in beauty dish, high speed sync did the trick to darken the background and highlight the grass as well as the subject.

Equipment

I'm using Profoto B1 lights on a 22in gridded beauty dish. Nikon D810, Nikon 105mm f/1.4 Handheld.

Inspiration

I'm a big fan for portrait photography. I idolized works from Steve McCurry, Annie Leibovitz and Manny Libres Librodo. Their works inspires me.

Editing

I processed my images with lightroom and photoshop.

In my camera bag

I have 2 bags. One for my profoto lighting with light modifier usually collapsible for easy packing. My other bag contains my Nikon D810, Nikon 105mm and now I'm considering to have another camera stuff in there (sony a7r iii with a sony GM lens 16-35mm)

Feedback

Before going to a project and or a photoshoot. You try to imagine what kind of images you are going to make. Its takes time, effort, and a lot of patience and practice. Eventually doing this repeatedly, you'll be able to see the images in your mind before you even started to shoot.
