Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the satellite community of Apex , in the City of Iqaluit, Nunavut Canada.

Time

This shot was taken around 7 in the evening in the month of May. It's that time of the year when Arctic daylight starts to extend longer towards summer season (when the sun doesn't set at all...for 24 hours).

Lighting

I was just blessed to get a good cover of the hill from the blaring sun. The shadow made it easier for my lens to capture the striking red colors of the boat and roof of the trade post against the bluish sky in the background.

Equipment

Camera: EOS 6D Lens: EF 17-40 mm 1:4L USM Tripod: Mefoto travel buddy

Inspiration

The Red Boat is iconic for the City of Iqaluit, not only for the boat itself but also the rich heritage of the Hudson Bay Trade Post (seen in the background) which has been there since 1861. Anyone who steps in this spot would feel a time travel experience of life in the Arctic during the days of the explorers.

Editing

I just did some dehazing process using lightroom and photoshop elements.

In my camera bag

My standard gear would always be my EOS 6D body, a Canon EF 70-300 mm zoom, EF 17-40 mm 1:4L USM and a Rokinon 2.8/14 mm.

Feedback

I always put more weight on good composition, having a good visual of what you want to pop out of the frame, using various angles to give you unique perspectives on the same subject. I'm still a work in progress and that's what keeps me excited about this hobby. Every shot is a learning experience.
