Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my kitchen at home.

Time

taken during early afternoon to assist in getting maximum natural light

Lighting

I also used a light box with two additional lights to help lighten the focus subject and eliminate shadows.

Equipment

Using a Nikon D40X with 18-50 mm lens set on auto with camera flash mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

i had heard about the crown effect you get with water droplets and wanted to try and capture it. As it was a first attempt at this type of photography i wanted to try and make it clear by use of colour.

Editing

there was no post processing to the photo with the exception of cropping the photo to maximise the capture without unnecessary distractions

In my camera bag

my standard equipment is Nikon D40X with a tamron 18-200mm lens

Feedback

The key part of this shot was that i filled a wine glass with just plain tap water to the brim. i then filled a pipette with food colouring and used a simple method of hanging a fork to give me a focus point, removed the fork and began to drop drops of food colouring whilst trying to photograph the drop hitting the water.
