In the spring of 2013, I was at the beginning of a personal renaissance, and found myself experimenting with all manner of photography. This included climbing out of my comfort zone and heading into Washington, DC to give a go at street photography. To help prevent drawing too much attention to myself, I chose the day of the Rock and Roll Marathon for my foray to ensure a fair amount of crowd. Wanting to get an early start, I made my way to the Vienna metro station roughly 30 minutes before the first train would depart towards the district. A few minutes later, a family arrived that was also on their way to the marathon. It wasn't long until this little guy got tired of watching his mom stretch and discuss pacing strategies, so he wander back to the steps to have a seat. I saw the final image in my head, but feeling like I would come across as a creeper, I couldn't muster the courage to take the shot.

He got up and walked around. I mentally kicked myself. Then, in a lucky break, he started wandering back to the steps, so I slowly back up to a good alignment with my camera angled towards the step and looked away. I heard him plop down with an emphatic sigh, and I snapped a few quick shots as incognito as I could.

This was my first frame that day, and by far and above my favorite.
