For years, I flat out refused to shoot weddings. I served as second shooter on one, and decided that it was too much stress, hassle, and effort. Then, a friend asked me to shoot his wedding, and kept asking until I begrudgingly complied. I did my best, for the conditions. He and his wife were pleased, but I saw shortcomings in my work.
Then a friend from way back asked me to shoot her wedding. Again, I tried to talk her out of it, but she wouldn't have it. She even countered with "We've got a lakefront with fall colors at sunset. The lighting should be 'not terrible.'" Turns out, I had a blast. Her and her new husband made sure that I had everything that I needed, including a note by the officiant for guests to leave their cameras in their pockets until the reception. This was the wedding that warmed me to shooting more of them.
