Location
This is Bastion Falls along Route 23A east of Tannersville NYTime
This was around mid day in the spring day, overcast with light rain.Lighting
I typically try and shoot water falls during light rain on cloudy over cast days. The rain will wet the rocks so they do not appear bright, the water darker the rocks.Equipment
This was take with Olympus E-M1 mark 2 camera with the 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro lens. Camera was on tripod since I was using a 10 stop neutral density filter to create a long exposure resulting the cotton candy water.Inspiration
I have always loved the long exposure water fall images so I will kist the falls in my area many times during the year hoping for just the right light, weather, water flow....Editing
My typical post process is done with Lightroom for exposure, WB and to bring out shadow detail, then use NIK Color Efex adding some tonal contrast, lighten/darken center, and glamour glowIn my camera bag
I have the Olympus E-M1 body, 12-100mm f/4, 7-14mm f/2.8, 60mm macro, 45mm f/1.2, 75mm f/1.8, 8mm f/1.8 fisheye, 75-300mm f/4.5-6.7 lenses. Lee square 10 and 15 stop neutral density filters and holders for my lenses, circular polarizer filter. Remote shutter release, tripod with RRS BH40 ball head all in Mind Shift backpack.Feedback
When you wake up and it is raining don't go back to bed, grab your gear and go find a water fall and mount the camera to the tripod and with polarizer and ND filters get the shutter speed in the 5-20 second range. When reviewing the image make sure you exposure is not blowing out the highlights, you can bring out the shadows in post processing. Great thing about the E-M1 system it is weather sealed so it can handle the foul weather, just keep an eye on the front of lens and keep any water drops off it.
